The most recent Community Health Needs Assessment in Adams County found that 33% of adults are considered obese. Obesity became a major goal of the current Community Health Improvement Plan. There are a variety of reasons for the high obesity rate including lack of access to fresh foods, no designated indoor physical activity space, and a low community tendency toward healthy lifestyle habits. High incidence of obesity can have profound effects on all dimensions of health including comorbidities for other chronic diseases. Our aim for this project is to provide recommendations to Adams County Health Department to address the high rates of obesity. Targeting obesity rates is not as easy as exercising more or eating healthier. Physical activity and nutrition must both be addressed in order to decrease obesity.
