In a partnership between the City of Pacific Grove (PG) and California State University Monterey Bay (CSUMB), student researchers worked to develop a city plan for a connection of the current coastal recreation path that runs between Monterey’s Cannery Row and Pacific Grove’s Lover’s Point. Pacific Grove is a city with unique challenges regarding the most efficient and economical way to implement bike path improvements. The student researchers of CSUMB gathered insight from stakeholders within Pacific Grove who could be impacted by new bike lanes and recommend a strategy which would meet the needs of Pacific Grove residents, businesses, and tourists. The primary concerns among stakeholders regarding bike lane expansion were cost, safety, and road space availability; ways in which the city may address these concerns are included in our city plan.
