For our project, we hoped to educate the public on the environmental and economical advantages of installing rain barrels in their homes. We aimed to do this by contacting employees from the City of Seaside in order to receive feedback and guidance for our project. We initially contacted Rick Riedl, Seaside’s Public Works Director and City Engineer. Reidl put us in contact with Jasmine Dolan, the Senior Administrative Assistant for Seaside’s Engineering department. Dolan met with us in order to discuss our plan to disseminate our resources to the public. In order to raise awareness about the environmental and utilitarian benefits of implementing a greywater system, we collected a variety of materials from various water companies and districts in the Monterey Bay area. We agreed upon distributing a pamphlet titled A Homeowner’s Guide to Conserving Water, which outlines the types of rain barrels, instructions on how to get started, and safety and maintenance information. We also printed California American Water and Monterey Peninsula Water Management District’s Monterey Peninsula Water Conservation Rebate Application for any residents who might be interested in the application and rebates.
