In Arizona, you are always close to nature. A mountain, a lake, a cave, a trail. There are always opportunities to enjoy the outdoors.
What was your first interaction with a school-community project and the impact it had on you?
I am very familiar with ASU’s Project Cities Program and have seen first-hand the life and innovation it can breathe into Arizona communities. Apache Junction, Peoria, and Clarkdale are just a few of the municipalities that have let students use their cutting-edge education and inspiration to better the quality of life for residents, while the students gain real-world experience and critical skills.
How did you first learn about EPIC-N?
I first learned of EPIC-N through Arizona State University’s Project Cities Program. Thanks, ASU!
In what ways are you looking to engage, or work with others, either from within the EPIC-Network, or in general?
Everyone has a unique life, education, and professional experience. When you ask the right questions, there is always something to be learned from someone that can be applied to your own experience. EPIC-N is special as it gathers innovate, civic-minded brains that care about sustainability, quality of life, education, and the betterment of communities.
What is your favorite part of the EPIC-Network?
Combining the sharp, innovate minds of universities with real life communities pushes ideas from textbooks to reality. Everyone benefits when diverse thoughts and experiences come together to help communities.
What led you to participate within the EPIC-Network in your current capacity?
The COVID-19 pandemic has reminded me that community building and quality education are critical to a healthy world, and EPIC-N is leading the charge to build resilient communities. EPIC-N can help communities be more socially, environmentally, and financially resilient to whatever challenges follow COVID-19.
Bio
Adam Shipley joined the City of Maricopa in 2018 as the Economic Development Management Analyst. While pursuing his Bachelor’s in Urban Planning, Adam began his professional career by targeting areas prime for conservation with City of Phoenix Water Services Department. After being promoted to Economic Development Coordinator, Adam is now the project liaison for the City’s biggest commercial projects, small entrepreneurial ventures, and everything business in between. Adam is an environmental sustainability advocate, and in his spare time enjoys traveling, art, cooking, and spoiling his Chiweenie. Adam recently joined the Global Shapers Phoenix Community and the EPIC-N network to collaborate with community leaders and help make the world a better place to live.
