As part of the Senior Design Capstone Course, Civil & Environmental Engineering students provided the design of a constructed wetlands for stormwater management, giving consideration to the settling and uptake of pollutants, wildlife, and related cost estimates for the project.
The City of Webster City has begun to address stormwater runoff with the recent development of a wetland feature at Riverside Park, but sought further remediation possibilities. Best management practice were explored and wetlands were designed to be constructed for water volume and quality control. Senior students in the University of Iowa’s College of Engineering considered best management practices for handling water volume and maintaining good water quality with the design of an additional wetland in the community. The project evaluated sizing of the wetland, outlet structure, vegetation, and included a monitoring plan.
