This project was completed as part of the 2017-2018 Resilient Communities Project (rcp.umn.edu) partnership with the City of Ramsey. Ramsey residents have voiced their desire for a community center, but uncertainty remains about what such a center might look like, and what sorts of activities, programming, and amenities it might include. Students in ARCH 3250/LA 3002: Design Workshop/Informants of Creating Landscape Space, taught by James Wheeler, Joseph Favour and Jessica Rossi-Mastracci, worked with the City to develop a clearer concept of a community center. The students considered what programing elements the city might offer, and created conceptual building designs to reflect these uses and activities. Site designs were created with specific locations and local contexts in mind, with a focus on Ramsey’s mixed-use, transit-oriented city center. The students’ final report and poster are available.
