Our group assisted in the update of the 20 to 40-year plan for Fremont Boulevard (Blvd) in Seaside. Our choice was influenced by the demand for attention the street displays through its lack of vibrancy and modernization. Our group sought to incorporate vibrancy and modernization into our proposal with biophilic design elements and attributes (Kellert, 2008) as our foundational influence. We believe biophilic design influence is the most efficient and innovative way to redesign Fremont Blvd because it offers those traversing this major roadway of the city to experience natural world relationships within an urbanized region (Kellert, 2008). Also, we believe creating a complete street will invite community members into an overall healthier, more sustainable lifestyle. In order to analyze the current usage of Fremont Blvd, we spent time in the community gathering observational data through car counts, pedestrian counts, and cyclist counts. We used the observational data we collected to shape our final redesign proposal. We also collected community member feedback in regard to the redesign of Fremont Blvd during the public commentary portions of City Council meetings. Precedent research was gathered to solidify recommendations for our redesign proposal of Fremont Boulevard.
