The purpose of this project is to increase public health conditions and overall quality of life for Seaside residents by proposing the future development of a linear-shaped, urban park. This new park is meant to be inclusive and equitable for surrounding communities while maintaining sustainably-influenced infrastructure. Alongside General Jim Moore Boulevard, a street lying on the western part of Seaside, is an undeveloped strip of land between Hilby and Coe Avenues. This empty stretch of land is 1.3 miles in length and roughly 250 feet wide. Being adjacent to neighborhoods, schools, and the Fort Ord National Monument, this location would be a perfect site for the development of a sustainably-influenced urban park. Nearby residents have already been using this space as a provisional trail space for walking and biking. After speaking to Seaside city planners and staff, our team decided to focus our project on the development of this land into a recreational area to be used by Seaside residents, tourists, and surrounding communities. Incorporating sustainable park and trail infrastructure, diversified mobility options, and assorted community use spaces will increase the public health of Seaside community members and even CSUMB affiliates. Developing a linear park within half a mile of multi-family neighborhoods will increase park accessibility and improved alternative transportation routes for nearby residents.
